The initial major engagement of the first British and Irish civil war was fought at Powick within sight of Worcester Cathedral. After nearly 9 years of bloody war had engulfed men, women and children the last battle including a new monarch Charles II, thousands of Scots and a highly organised Parliamentary army led for the last time into battle by Oliver Cromwell, was fought around the city and finally in the streets of Worcester on the 3rd September 1651.
